Yahoo hired Katie Couric to drive revenue through story sharing.  CEO Marissa Mayer says, “At Yahoo, we are investing in bringing our users the absolute best story experiences available — and this is just the beginning!”

What’s really going on with the Couric hire? A source familiar with Yahoo’s strategy told Mashable that the company isn’t trying to create some alternative version of a traditional TV network. Instead, Couric’s hire is part of Yahoo’s continued emphasis on “original voices and original story,” both on camera and in print, which are intended to help attract target audiences, and ultimately drive revenue through advertising, to the site.
